There are a lot of blogs out here in Internetland, so thanks for stopping by mine. Here’s what I think you’ll find different and why you’ll want to keep returning.

You can probably tell by the “topics” listed in my sidebar some of what I’ll be writing, but it goes much deeper than that. Primarily I’m calling this blog Post-Christian Dispatches as a way of framing the Jesus of history as a pointer and the Unnameable as the point. For me, post-Christian goes beyond the person of Jesus because that’s where the story ultimately leads. That, I believe, is the terminus of the Jesus narrative and what makes his story so much more, rather than less.

From this perspective – for me at least – the narrative of Jesus makes more sense of self, science and all we call ‘sacred’ as it crescendos into the revelation of an inclusive story for all humanity; a story that beckons we enter into a deep ecclesiology of celebrating the present moment whatever that might be or look like.

On a personal note, I’m one of the 20+ million people who now consider themselves to be spiritual but not religious. This means more to me than just no suit and tie, buildings or formal religion – and it means more than using the term as a slick marketing ploy because it’s hip, only to do a bait-and-switch by retrofitting a shiny new spirituality  within a ‘modified’ version of institutionalized religion. No thanks. Been there, done that.

All this means that while I have a particular primal narrative, I affirm that inevitably all belief systems are meant to take us beyond what can be known that we might meet at the intersection of mystery and humility. And if this unites us, then there is much about doubt to be praised.

I’m also about passion: Passion for what’s good and beautiful – for wonder, charity and clarity; for hope, a good story and reflecting on things holding the potential to unite humankind. To what end? It’s pretty lofty I admit: So that a new earth might be made manifest and the future of our children might be bright.

Ultimately I celebrate each person as being part of the mysterious Unnameable Source of all life, and if you feel this way too, then I think you’ll resonate with much of what I’ll be reflecting on in this blog.

On a process note:

Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays are good days to check out what’s new. If you follow me on Twitter or connect with me on Facebook I’ll make it easy by sending out notices when updates are posted. AND from time-to-time I’ll also have a Sunday video post (hopefully from somewhere in nature) we’ll call (why not?) “Sacred Sunday.” Consider it a detox step for those of you who want to try out what it’s like to be post-church by staying in bed on Sunday, but still seek some sort of inspirational ‘hit’ if you ‘miss’!

Thanks for stopping by.

Blessings,
Tim
