I hope that the American people will rise to the occasion of peacemaking, and that they will applaud such an honor being bestowed on our president, who in my opinion deserves the award. I hope that he will be encouraged to make more moves for peace and bow out of the arena of force. I hope that dissenters can be listened to and not kowtowed to because those who dissent peace are the voices of fear who need comforting and soothing. I feel that many did not have enough nurturing and do not have the confidence that befits an American in such a diverse world of people, many of whom the country has become home to.

What a wonderful day it is!

Considering, (from the reactions I'm reading in e-mail, news journals, facebook, and blogs) that some are stunned at this news, some are bewildered, supporters are cheering President Obama while detractors seem suspicious and distrustful, you've focused our attention on the most important outcome amidst the dizzying array of polarizing public opinion: The U.S. is strengthening its voice in the world dialogue on peace... Yes, that is worth celebrating! Thanks for bringing things back into focus.

Tim, I too applaud our President for getting this wonderful award. I don't pretend to agree with all that has and is taking place in the halls of congress and in the oval office. But I truely believe we are headed in the right direction. Unfortunately it is going to take some time to undo this whole war thing, we just need to be pateint. Congrats to our president, he deserves it!!.

Thanks for commenting Chuck... now you get abused! Ha. My post is not to debate any of the stuff you mention -- much of which I agree with. We could discuss the politics of this and politics in general till the sun burns itself out -- I'm just trying to say to everybody, "hey, peace and the U.S. are in the same sentence"! That's worth celebrating.

Tim,

You make a good point in so far as peace and the U.S. are used in the same sentence, however, I'm not certain that a troop intensification in Afghanistan is en route to a peaceful middle east solution. Words and promises no longer affect me. They all talk a good game but in the end they appear no different..."the new boss, same as the old boss..." Obama has not impressed me in the slightest as a man interested in anything but a consolidation of power...peace is the misdirection necessary to accomplish his ends. Well, I don't claim to have the right perspective...but I will say that I'm not comfortable with our direction. Thanks Tim.

Blessings,
Chuck
