Congrats to Obama and the U.S.

It was announced today that President Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize. I fully celebrate this because it is a joy to once again have the word ‘peace’ associated with the country I so dearly love – even in the midst of its many flaws. I celebrate this award today because it brings to mind how much the world is really rooting for the U.S. to ‘get it right.’

I have no political affiliation. I’m not a Democrat, Republican nor Independent, etc. As a matter of fact I prefer to invoke the line about Democrats versus Republicans that comedian Lewis Black often uses, saying: “The difference between a Democrat and a Republican is that…” oh, wait, my mom reads this blog… never mind, sorry.

We can debate the President’s policies, what he has or has not accomplished and a myriad of other issues regarding this award but for me, all of them are beside the point: Once again, today, the U.S. is being linked with playing a recognizable role in efforts toward PEACE. And THAT is worth celebrating.
